amethyst, etc.

September 23, 2011

Purple is a bit of a dirty word. But aubergine, lilac, amethyst, plum – these can be music to a designer’s ears. With its varying hues, today’s purple is so much more sophisticated than when we were little girls with grape unicorns all over our rooms. As we saw at Fjeldborg yesterday, lilac with gray in the bedroom is a lovely, soothing, and unexpected combination. I myself, recently selected a deep plum couch as a softer, yet still masculine option for a male client. And as my daughter starts to come into her own about style, I figure it’s high time I really embrace all that purple can be.

Clockwise from top: Barbar tray from Ikea, Turkish bath towel from Bath Style, Dhurri rug from Matta, velvet cushion from Urban Outfitterspassion flower pillow in orchid by Giardino, Le Versha chair in plum from Anthropologie, hooks made from Icelandic felt from Normann Copenhagen, vintage tripod lamp by EarthSeaWarrior. For more purple selects, see my recent Etsy treasury.
