vintage linen apron, also available with a hot pink tie

The other day while perusing Handmade Charlotte, I noticed some cute ceramic spoons by Caroline Gomez. Further investigation revealed a whole bounty of beautiful objects by this gifted French artist/designer.

From wood to ceramics, leather to textiles, Caroline’s varied work runs the gamut of mediums. But no matter what the material, each design possesses a rare combination of grace and beauty with wit and ingenuity. I like the way she surprises us with her details – like the bit of bling (gold leather tie) for her wooden spatulas – or impresses with her clever designs – such as her leaning shelves. Her aprons, which can be worn up or down, and her lamps, in which the extension cord is part of the design, illustrate Caroline’s gift for making the useful beautiful. Instead of hiding these utilitarian aspects, she uses them as a source of inspiration, a problem to be solved with innovation and a touch of whimsy.
