A rainy weekend in Newton provided the perfect climate for nesting, unpacking, and settling into our new home. It’s starting to feel good to be here now. The more we dig ourselves out from under the debris, the more I’m able to perceive the beauty of this house: moments when the sun shines through a particular window, the enfilades from room to room, or the view from our office.
Getting down to boxes with odds and ends also revealed some forgotten favorites: old quilts and a picture of our beloved dog, Bella, who died last winter, adorable photos of Olie and the only playbill I ever saved. (I don’t usually keep these things, but I’m obsessed with Bill Nighy.)
On Saturday, we hosted some of our oldest friends, and on Sunday met new ones at a neighborhood party. All in all it was the perfect balance. Wrapped in the security of continuity, we await the adventures of a new life.
