excerpt from Knots, Itoami Plants

Yesterday, you may have noted among my aubergine selects a stunning crocheted eggplant. It was the work of Japanese artist Itoamika Jung Jung.

Working with “needles and thread” from an early age, Jung Jung later graduated from Musashino Art University. Further cutting her teeth while working with Japanese brands Chico and Mother, she eventually went solo in 2010. In 2008 she also began a knitting unit called “knots” with Miki Fukushima, which resulted in a book, Knots, Itoami Plants.

Both Jung Jung’s individual work, as well as her collaborations with Fukushima are, to put it simply, exquisite. With minute little knots, she deftly captures the expression and grace of Nature’s forms. Fluid, organic, never over embellished, they are utterly perfect.
