lotte van dijck

January 25, 2012

I absolutely love these drawings by Lotte van Dijck. An artist, illustrator, singer and songwriter from the Netherlands, Lotte draws these whimsical little characters on her own photographs. I love the interplay of two mediums – one real and one rendered – as well as the juxtaposition of the sublime and the playful. Happily going about their adventures, Lotte’s pocket-sized cartoons seem obvious to the vastness of the world around them. It’s as if, uncomplicated by too many dimensions, they are content to enjoy the little things in life.

Lotte’s album cover (above) also features a charming illustration by another Lotte, her friend Lotte Klaver.

(Honestly I had the hardest time picking just a few of Lotte van Dijck’s drawings. For more, visit her flickr site.)
