By day, Sabina is a film director and producer who works mostly with fx puppets, gremlins and aliens. By night, this Montreal native indulges a softer side crafting much more low tech, low budget critters for her Etsy shop, Royal Mint.

Cute but characterful, Sabina’s creatures are full of personality. I love the way in which with just the merest detail – the turn of an ear, the pin prick of an eye, the roundness of a haunch - Sabina subtly suggests each animal’s whole nature. But like totems their essence is symbolic rather than representational, each emblematic of a corresponding human emotion. Curious is the kid. Testy is the badger. Bumbling is the bear. Though diminutive, they are unapologetic. Their simple, primitive construction, none-the-less denotes a spirit most self-assured. Though certainly lovable, they must be taken on their own terms.
